Student Corner: Fall Greetings from the AAPOR Welcoming Committee!

by Benjamin Schapiro and Holly Hagerty, AAPOR Welcoming Committee Co-Chairs

The AAPOR Welcoming Committee is here for all members and conference-goers who are students, early-career professionals, or folks who are newer to AAPOR. While we are currently hard at work thinking about the 2022 conference and how much we cannot wait to see all of you in person again, there is plenty to do right now. AAPOR’s call for abstracts went out last month, and we strongly encourage you to submit so you can present in Chicago. While we are always available to chat about any ideas you might have for the conference, we also think that the best kind of connection happens when we can all interact together.

We could not be more excited for AAPOR 2022. Both Holly and Benjamin are based in Chicago, and to make sure that you all have the best time, we have partnered with the Local Events Subcommittee to begin planning activities out and around the city. While the conference may be downtown, we will make sure that you have the opportunity to experience all of Chicago, if you want, plus our usual set of offsite lunches, happy hours, and maybe even a pub crawl. For some of you, this will be your first in-person AAPOR, and we cannot wait!

Leading up to the conference we will be offering several things to keep an eye out for: roommate matching to offset lodging costs, FAQ sheets to ask and answer questions, guides to the conference, invitations to social events, and much more! In the meantime, think about becoming involved in AAPOR as a volunteer, or join a standing committee—it is a great way to network and get to know your fellow AAPORites. Please feel free to email us or reach out on Twitter (@AAPOR_Welcoming)—we are happy to help with any questions. Be on the lookout for more information from us leading up to the conference!
