Chapter Spotlight: NEAAPOR

by Tami Buhr, 2017-18 NEAAPOR President
The New England AAPOR executive council is happy to report continued growth and engagement across the chapter’s region.

Programming Chair, Patrick Madden, and Associate Chair, Missy Mosher, have been busy organizing several events:
  • Co-sponsored with Emerson University, the chapter held the inaugural Student Research Poster Symposium and Reception. Spencer Kimball, chapter Vice President, was a key event organizer. Ten students from several universities in New England participated in the event, presenting their posters to a panel of judges. Student posters covered a range of interesting topics related to public opinion research, including racial inequality, poverty, gender bias, and data collection. The event demonstrated the hard work and talent of the next generation of survey researchers.
  • The chapter held its second Winter Mixer in early 2018 in Cambridge. The event gave members the opportunity to break out of their winter routines and get to know one another better. A mix of members from academia and industry enjoyed lively conversation about their latest research over snacks and drinks.
  • The chapter is pleased to hold its first event in Connecticut in late April since reinitiating the chapter a few years ago. The University of Connecticut will co-sponsor a panel event at its Hartford Campus. The panel will feature several speakers who will share their research-based recommendations for fielding surveys in an era of declining survey response rates.
  • The chapter is looking forward to the AAPOR Annual Conference where it will sponsor the games at the Chapter Event. We look forward to seeing other members at giant Jenga and other fun games. Be sure to look for our new chapter logo featuring New England’s favorite crustacean.
