Thank you for your interest in volunteering on an AAPOR committee!
Volunteering to serve AAPOR through committee membership is a rewarding experience that allows you to grow your professional networks, learn more about national organization activities, and help direct the future growth of AAPOR. AAPOR relies on enthusiastic, talented members to do the necessary work that keeps the organization running.
Currently, there are nine standing committees that accept volunteer members.

  • AAPOR History Committee
  • Communications Committee
  • Diversity Initiative Coordinating Committee
  • Education Committee
  • Investment Committee
  • Membership and Chapter Relations Committee
  • Standard Definitions Committee
  • Standards Committee
  • Transparency Initiative Coordinating Committee

In addition, we have some subcommittees and ad-hoc committees or taskforces that are accepting volunteers.

More information about who currently chairs, and serves, on these committees, as well as what these committees do can be found on the AAPOR website.
Throughout the year, some committees are busier than others and will require more of your time to be an engaged and productive committee member. All committees have regular meetings via conference call and have an annual in person meeting at the AAPOR conference. Conference attendance is not required to serve on a committee. Joining an AAPOR committee requires a commitment to completing a three year term. After three years, you have the option to renew your committee membership for a second three year term. If you are concerned about the time commitment for committee work, we encourage you to reach out to the chair of the committee you are interested in or Jerry Timbrook, the chair of the volunteer coordination subcommittee, with your questions.
AAPOR is strengthened by encouraging diverse committees and demand to volunteer can be high. When you fill out your AAPOR membership form, please consider which committee or committees would be the best fit for your time and interests and indicate which committee or committees you would like to serve on.
To help the committee chairs know a little more about you, please complete the form below. This information will facilitate matching you with a committee that will be a good fit for your interests and background.

Additionally, you can learn more about AAPOR committees, volunteering and leadership opportunities from this webinar recording.

Thank you for volunteering with AAPOR. If you have any questions, please contact Jerry Timbrook ([email protected]).
