About This Course:

The whiplash of polling between President Trump and Joe Biden continues as we approach the last campaign stage of the 2020 Presidential Election. Some state and national polls are more reliable than others. How can reporters accurately interpret polls and use them effectively in their reporting?
For journalists seeking more clarity on pollster quality, margins of error and other factors to carefully vet a poll, the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) will host a media webinar on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 12:30PM ET.

Learning objectives
  • The accuracy of polls
  • What really happened with polling during the 2016 election
  • Four critical questions to ask before reporting on a poll
  • The fundamentals of reporting on polls
  • How to use the right language when reporting on polls
AAPOR will also provide links and resources for journalists to accurately and reliably report on election polls, including an upcoming analysis of the 2020 Democratic primary polls.
AAPOR, the nation’s leading professional organization of survey researchers, offers a wealth of material and guidance on how to handle polls. And AAPOR has experts who are ready to answer questions from journalists now through the end of election season.
Journalists participating in the online webinar will also be able to ask questions about polling and the 2020 election.
