About This Course:

I will discuss markdown as a simple language to create formatted text, and extensions of markdown that incorporate statistical code and its output, such as statistical results, tables, and graphs. Examples of simple markdown documents will be presented, and extensions such as parametric R markdown documents that can use different data sets or different filters will be discussed. Some familiarity with R will be helpful, to the extent of general understanding what R code does, but all the steps will be explained. Students will be encouraged to run their own markdown examples.

Learning objectives:
  • Introduce Markdown as a bare bones text-only format that allows formatting text, inserting links, inserting images.
  • Introduce RMarkdown as a tool to weave together text and analysis (tables, figures, plots, individual numbers).
  • Demonstrate other uses of Markdown (Stata, Python notebooks, diagrams).
  • Demonstrate flexible / reproducible report generation with parametric Markdown templates and input parameters.
  • Provide resources for further professional development.

He is also interested in statistical computing including the reproducible research tools such as markdown presented in this webinar.
