Student Conference Award Nomination Information/Process

Deadline and Eligibility Extended

The Student Conference Award was established to encourage student attendance at the AAPOR Annual Conference. Student Conference Awards are offered to students so that they may attend the conference and experience this important educational and networking event for survey and research methodology and public opinion researchers. Preference is given to conference attendees participating in the conference program and in need of financial support.

For AAPOR's 2021 Annual Conference, Student Conference Award winners will receive full waiver of conference registration fees and AAPOR annual membership fees for each selected student. The awards are funded by the AAPOR General Fund. Student Conference Award applicants need not be current AAPOR members, but are expected to join at the time of the Conference.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be full-time students (including Post-Doctoral scholars) enrolled in college or university programs that teach or use survey and/or public opinion research methods as central tools for research and analysis. These include but are not limited to: survey methodology, anthropology, communications, economics, political science, psychology, public health and sociology. Awardees must be willing to attend the All Chapter Reception, Awards Banquet and additional networking events held during the AAPOR Annual Conference to be determined.

UPDATE: Since the 2021 awards do not involve a travel component, the restriction on individuals receiving an award more than once has been removed for this year. Individuals who have won these awards in previous years will be eligible for these awards at the 2021 virtual conference and 2021 virtual conference awards will not count toward future award eligibility. Moreover, this year both full and part-time students are eligible to apply for student awards.

Preference will be given to:

  • Students with a strong interest in survey and/or public opinion research methods
  • Those who might not be able to attend the Conference without AAPOR financial support
  • Those participating in the Conference program (e.g. paper or poster session presenter or co-author on a paper)

Application Process:

An award application form, and a letter of support from the applicant's faculty advisor or department chair must be received by February 15, 2021 in order to be considered for the 2021 Student Conference Award. Please be sure to include your name on the application as you would like it to appear in the Conference program should you receive an award.

The award application form must be completed online. The letter of support can be uploaded with the application or can be sent to [email protected]
