Returning Member Travel Award Nomination Process

New for the 75th Conference in 2020!
The AAPOR Returning Member Travel Award is intended to help people working in survey research or public opinion research and who have attended an AAPOR Conference in the past, but did not attend during the 2018 and 2019 conferences to attend the 75th annual AAPOR conference. The 2020 AAPOR Returning Member Travel Award will reduce the cost of registration for the annual conference to $275.  
Applicants need not be current AAPOR members, but must have been past AAPOR Conference attendees and are expected to join AAPOR before the time of the annual conference.

Applicants must: 
  1. Currently work for pay (full-time or part-time) and be employed in roles that are primarily related to methodological research or public opinion research, including doing research on these topics or teaching classes on these topics; 
  2. Have attended an AAPOR Conference in the past, but did not attend during the 2018 and 2019 conferences;
  3. Be willing to attend the Thursday night All Attendee and Chapter reception and the Saturday night banquet.
AAPOR will give preference to:
  1. Those participating in the conference program by taking a short course, presenting a paper or poster, co-authoring a paper, chairing a session, mentoring students who are also attending the conference, or volunteering at the conference;
  2. Those who work in relatively underfunded settings (that is, who have no or very limited resources to attend conferences); and
  3. Those who might not be able to attend the conference without some support from AAPOR.
In 2020, the AAPOR Returning Member Travel Award Committee plans to make 5 to 10 awards. 

Supporting materials:

A letter from the applicant's employer of no more than 300 words explaining (a) why the applicant merits an award, (b) how much (if any) the employer will contribute to the employee's conference expenses, and (c) how attendance at the AAPOR conference will enhance the applicant's career is required to complete the application process.
Application Process:

An award application, and a letter from the applicant's employer, must be submitted by the deadline to be considered for the award. Please be sure to include your name in the application as you would like it to appear in the conference program should you receive an award. Returning Member Travel Award applications and supporting materials must be received by midnight Eastern Time, January 31, 2020.
