May 14-17, 2009 - Hollywood, Florida

The conference will bring together almost a thousand of the country's leading public opinion research scientists to discuss and analyze the latest research on public opinion and survey methodology, theory, and results.

The theme of this year’s AAPOR conference – Public Choices in Changing Times – highlights the tectonic shifts in media technology that have brought unprecedented variety in entertainment and information options, even as they have spawned entirely new means of reaching and cultivating audiences and publics and placed traditional methods of public opinion research in a state of flux.  The conference will feature papers, posters, methodological panels and demonstrations that inform our quest for new theories and methods, and help extend our field’s longstanding commitment to giving voice to the public.

 

This year, AAPOR meets at the Westin Diplomat Convention Center, which features a spacious and well-appointed conference center, unmatched resort and spa facilities, stunning architecture, beachfront access and striking ocean views.  Situated just 10 minutes from Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport and 30 minutes from Miami International Airport, the Westin Diplomat invites visitors to experience all that South Florida has to offer, including the Everglades, casinos, lively entertainment, water sports and fishing.

The pre-registration deadline has passed. Please bring your registration from and payment directly onsite to register for the conference.

This year’s conference will be held at the Westin Diplomat Convention Center in Hollywood, Florida. AAPOR will be offering room blocks at two hotels to fill the needs of our attendees. The Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa and the Crowne Plaza Hollywood Beach. Check out the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa, one of the two hotels for this year's conference. ROOM SHARING AT 2009 AAPOR CONFERENCE

This year AAPOR is maintaining a list of 2009 AAPOR Conference attendees interested in sharing accommodations in Hollywood, Fla. When you sign up for room sharing you will be emailed a copy of the list so that you may contact potential roommates directly. The list is emailed each Friday. Please try to submit your information as early as possible while appropriate room accommodations are still available. If you are interested, please complete the online form.

 

HEARD OF NETWORK SAMPLING? [not sure what it is?]

Put your AAPOR network to work! These are tough and scary times for a lot of people and organizations in public opinion polling and survey research.  Sharing our stories and expanding our circle of contacts can help.  The Executive Council has scheduled some late-breaking activities at the 2009 conference for AAPORites who want to enhance their professional and social networks:

  •  “Speed Networking” Thursday morning and afternoon, and
  • “Network Sampling” sessions Friday and Saturday

Please join us for some fun and facts.  Who knows, it could lead to your next big break or your next new employee of the year!
